Morocco Market Watch | June 3rd 2015: Moroccan equity market retracts, adds MAD 1.13 billion
Casablanca, Morocco (Capital Markets in Africa):- Morocco equity market retracted the bearish mood today. Morocco’s benchmark stock index (MASI Index) added 0.26 percent to close at 9,701.77 points (increased year-to-date performance to 0.85 percent) with total market capitalization at MAD 492.583 billion (rose by MAD 1.13 billion compared to previous trading sessions market capitalization of MAD 491.454 billion) and market activities measured as total traded value was recorded at MAD 90.161 million (an increase of 23 percent from previous trading session of MAD 73.212 million).
Likewise, Moroccan most active share index (MADEX) closed at 7,941.26 points (lost 0.30 percent compared to previous trading day). Although, FTSE CSE Morocco 15 Index shed off 0.46 percent to close at 8,489.78 points (-3.75 percent year-to-date performance) and FTSE CSE Morocco All-Liquid Index surged by 0.09 percent to end at 8,122.68 points (to bring the year-to-date performance to 0.77 percent).
In term of sector indices, top gainers were Insurance, Distributions and Transports sector indices gained 3.70 percent, 3.71 percent, and 1.71 percent respectively. On the losers’ side were Leisure & Hotels (lost 4.30 percent to close the year-to-date performance at -22.27 percent), Forestry & Paper (declined by 0.65 percent and -44.66 percent year-to-date return) and Bank sector indices (went down by 0.56 percent).
The market sentiment was positive today, as the market breadth (advancer/decliners ratio) with 14 gainers and 10 losers. On the gainers’ chart, LABEL VIE Morocco gained 9.96 percent to end at MAD 1,170 and WAFA Assurance Morocco advanced by 5.84 percent or MAD 208 to settle at MAD 3,770.00. In the same positive mood, COLORADO Morocco surged by 4.17 percent (or MAD 3.00) with closing price of MAD 75.00 as well as TOTAL MAROC advanced by 4.10 percent to conclude at MAD 610.00.
On the negative side, FENIE BROSSETTE fell by 5.54 percent or MAD 7.45 with a closing price of MAD 127.00 to top the losers chart. At the same time, RISM Morocco shed off 4.30 percent to close at MAD 209.10 and ZELLIDJA S.A. Morocco plummeted by 3.42 percent or MAD 6.05 to conclude at MAD 171.00. Likewise, CIH Morocco and HOLCIM Morocco went down by 2.14 percent and 1.90 percent to close at MAD 311.20 and MAD 2,060 respectively.
