Morocco Market Watch | May 26th 2015: Moroccan equity indices down and lose MAD 2.8bn
Casablanca, Morocco (Capital Markets in Africa):- Morocco’s benchmark stock index (MASI Index) lost by 0.44 percent to close at 9,630.44 points (0.11 percent year-to-date performance) with total market capitalization at MAD 485.210 (decreased by MAD 2.8 billion compared to previous trading sessions) and market activities measured as total traded value was recorded at MAD 49.729 million (an increase of 145 percent relative to previous day market turnover). Likewise, Moroccan most active share index (MADEX) closed at 7,874.45 points (declined by 0.47 percent compared to previous trading day). In addition, FTSE CSE Morocco 15 Index fell by 0.76 percent to close at 8,459.06 points (-4.10 percent year-to-date performance) and FTSE CSE Morocco All-Liquid Index plummeted by 0.62% to end at 8,054.70 points (to bring the year-to-date performance to 0.08 percent).
In term of sector indices, top gainers were Distributions, Materials, Software & Computer Services and Food Producers & Processors sector indices rose by 1.93 percent, 1.49 percent, and 1.25 percent respectively. On the losers’ side were Chemicals (lost 3.80 percent to close the year-to-date performance at -36.25 percent), Insurance (declined by 2.25 percent and 3.49 percent year-to-date return) and Telecommunication sector index (lost 1.68 percent but 2.81 percent year-to-date return).
The market sentiment was negative today, as the market breadth (advancer/decliners ratio) with 13 advancers and 18 decliners. On the one hand, MICRODATA gained 5.60 percent to end at MAD 149 and AUTO HALL advanced by 3.98 percent to settle at MAD 92.65. Also, CARTIER SAADA Morocco surged by 2.70 percent with closing price of MAD 19.00 as well as DISWAY advanced by 2.66 percent to close at MAD 212.00. On the other hand, ALLIANCES, SNEP,SONASID, SAMIR and STROC INDUSTRIES Morocco lost 5.68 percent (to settle at MAD 94.98), 4.83 percent (to end at MAD 128.20), 4.13 percent (with closing price of MAD 767.00), 2.92 percent (to settle at MAD 156.20) and 2.69 percent (to settle at MAD 97.50) respectively.
