DAR ES SALAAM Tanzania, Capital Markets in Africa — Tanzania Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange equity market started in the green zone at the end of Monday trading session. Therefore, the equity market capitalization lost TZS 259 billion (about US$120 million) to end at TZS 22,047 billion relative to market capitalization of TZS 21,788 billion recorded at previous trading session.
The Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange index (DSEI) gained 29.74 points or 1.20 percent to end at 2,517.31 points. However, Tanzanian domestic Share Index plunged by 10.98 points or 0.24 percent to close at 4,612.25 points.
The Banks, Finance & Investment sector fell by 0.21 percent or 6.43 points to end at 3,106.75 points. Industrial & Allied sector index dropped 0.23 percent or 14.12 points to close at 6,152.61 points and Commercial services sector index also plummeted by 0.63 percent or 25.11 points to settle at 3,949.07.
Today, the Dar Es Salaam Stock Exchange recorded a total turnover of TZS 56.57 million from 36,518 shares traded in 40 deals compared to the previous session which recorded a turnover of TZS 227.90 million from 450,041 shares traded in 50 deals. CRDB traded 25,920 shares traded in 9 deals and National Microfinance Bank exchanged 4,022 shares in 13 deals. Tanzania Cigarette Company traded 400 shares in 2 deals. Tanzania Portland Cement Company traded 2,080 shares in 2 deals and Tanga Cement Company Limited had 2,010 in 3 deals and Swissport Tanzania had 2,066 shares in 8 deals.
On the market strength/breath perspectives, the markets breathe ended positive today, with four gainers and three laggards. Acacia Mining Limited added 5.17 percent to settle at TZS 8,550, Kenya Commercial Bank surged by 3.33 percent to close at TZS 930.00, Jubilee Holdings Limited ended at TZS 10,470 by adding 0.67 percent and East Africa Breweries Limited traded at TZS 5,690 by gaining 0.35 percent. On the losers’ table were Tanga Cement Company Limited close at TZS 3,450.00 after falling by 6.67 percent, Swissport Tanzania Limited tumbled by 0.35 percent to conclude at TZS 7,340 and National Microfinance Bank slumped by 0.35 percent to end at TZS 2,820.
