DAR ES SALAAM Tanzania, Capital Markets in Africa — On Tuesday, equity market trading returned to negative sentiment after the market capitalization went down TZS 462 billion (about US$214 million) to end at TZS 21,585 billion relative to market capitalization of TZS 22,047 billion recorded at previous trading session.
The Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange index (DSEI) sagged by 53.07 points or 2.11 percent to end at 2,464.24 points. Also, Tanzanian domestic Share Index fell by 8.84 points or 0.19 percent to end at 4,603.41 points.
The Banks, Finance & Investment sector crashed by 0.41 percent or 12.86points to end at 3,093.89 points. Industrial & Allied sector index dipped by 0.12 percent or 7.16 points to close at 6,145.00 points and Commercial services sector index stayed at 3,949.07.
Today, the Dar Es Salaam Stock Exchange recorded a total turnover of TZS 1,268.35 million from 111,963 shares traded in 38 deals compared to the previous session which recorded a turnover of TZS 56.57 million from 36,518 shares traded in 40 deals. CRDB traded 24,765 shares traded in 23 deals and National Microfinance Bank exchanged 3,188 shares in 11 deals. Tanzania Cigarette Company traded 400 shares in 2 deals. Tanzania Portland Cement Company traded 570 shares in 2 deals and Tanga Cement Company Limited had 280 in 1 deal and Swissport Tanzania had 2,066 shares in 8 deals. Tanzania Breweries Limited registered 83,160 shares in 1 deal.
On the market strength/breath perspectives, the markets breathe ended negative today, with two gainers and five laggards. Nation Media Group gained 1.67 percent to settle at TZS 3,040 and Jubilee Holdings Limited soared by 0.86 percent to close at TZS 10,560. On the losers’ table were Acacia Mining Limited close at TZS 7,490 after falling by 12.40 percent, Tanga Cement Company Limited dropped 1.45 percent to conclude at TZS 3,400, Tanzania Portland Cement Company slumped by 0.89 percent to end at TZS 3,350, National Microfinance Bank went down by 0.71 percent to trade t TZS 2,800 and East Africa Breweries Limited ended at TZS 10,470 by adding 0.67 percent and East Africa Breweries Limited traded at TZS 5,660 by dropping 0.53 percent.
