DAR ES SALAAM Tanzania, Capital Markets in Africa — On Monday, the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange equity market began the week in red zone, as a result the equity market capitalization sagged by TZS 6.52 billion (about US$3 million) to end at TZS 22,335.06 billion relative to market capitalization of TZS 22,341.58 billion recorded at previous trading session.
At the same time, the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange index (DSEI) marginally fell by 0.75 points or 0.03 percent to end at 2,551.74 points. On the contrary, the Tanzanian domestic Share Index added 6.07 points or 0.13 percent to close at 4,655.27 points.
The Banks, Finance & Investment sector index remained flat to close at 2,994.37 points. Industrial & Allied sector index gained 0.18 percent or 11.31 points to close at 6,302.05 points and Commercial services sector index remained constant to settle at 4,057.90.
Today, the Dar Es Salaam Stock Exchange recorded a total turnover of TZS 45.33 million from 51,922 shares traded in 67 deals compared to the previous session which recorded a turnover of TZS 271.87 million from 61,170 shares traded in 42 deals. CRDB had 30,287 shares traded in 47 deals and National Microfinance Bank exchanged 4,770 shares in 11 deals. Tanzania Breweries Limited traded 100 shares in 1 deal. DCB Commercial recorded 15,800 shares traded in 2 deals. Tanzania Cigarette Company traded 300 shares in 1 deal and Swissport Tanzania Limited had turnover of 445 in 3 deals.
On the market strength/breath perspectives, the markets breathe ended negative today, with 2 gainers and 4 losers. Jubilee Holdings Limited ended at TZS 10,570 after adding 4.04 percent and Tanzania Breweries Limited gained 0.33 percent to settle at TZS 15,250, Whereas, National Media Group plunged by 1.80 percent to close at TZS 3,280 and Acacia Mining Limited traded at TZS 8,110 after losing 0.73 percent. East Africa Breweries Limited fell by 0.16 percent to close at TZS 16,280 and Tanzania Cigarette Company sagged by 0.12 percent to end TZS 16,280.
