Tanzania Equity Markets | 2 Sep 2015 : Bear continues the supremacy, investors lose US$27 million
Dar es Salaam, Tanzania Capital Markets in Africa — The bear runs continued to torment equity trading at the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange at the end of Wednesday’s trading session. The equity market capitalization further fell by TZS 58 billion (about US$27 million) to end at TZS 21,558 billion relative to market capitalization of TZS 21,616 billion recorded at previous trading session.
Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange index (DSEI) sagged by 6.84 points or 0.28 percent to end at 2,462.20 points. Tanzanian domestic Share Index plummeted by 3.08 points or 0.07 percent to close at 4,620.89 points.
The Banks, Finance & Investment sector index remained flat at 2,965.79 points. Industrial & Allied sector index remained steady at 6,267.25 points but Commercial services sector index sagged by 1.88 percent to end at 3,923.33.
Today, the Dar Es Salaam Stock Exchange recorded a total turnover of TZS 1,724.50 million from 154,471 shares traded in 79 deals compared to the previous session which recorded a turnover of TZS 1,429.56 million from 3,434,263 shares traded in 148 deals. CRDB had 34,414 shares traded in 42 deals and National Microfinance Bank exchanged 5,680 shares in 5 deals. Tanzania Breweries Limited traded 111,270 shares in 11 deals. Tanzania Portland Cement Company Limited recorded 162 shares traded in 6 deals. Tanzania Cigarette Company Limited traded 600 shares in 4 deals. Swissport Tanzania had 455 shares in 6 deals.
On the market strength/breath perspectives, the markets breathe ended negative today, with two gainers and 6 losers. Swala Gas & Oil Tanzania Limited emerged as the top gainers after adding 11.00 percent with a closing price of TZS 555 and East Africa Breweries Limited improved by 1.98 percent to settle at KES 5,660. Where as, Acacia Mining Limited sagged by 3.32 percent at TZS 7,570.00, Swissport Tanzania Limited plunged by 2.41 percent to trade at TZS 7,300.00 and Uchumi Supermarket Limited plummeted by 5.56 percent to end at TZS 170. KCB Group closed at TZS 890.00 after a reduction of 1.11 percent. National Media Group ended at TZS 3,380 after falling by 0.29 percent and Jubilee Holdings Limited moved by -0.27 percent to trade at KES 11,070
