Dar es Salaam, Tanzania (Capital Markets in Africa):- Equities trading on the Dar Es Salaam Stock Exchange ended in the north region and the equity market capitalization sagged by TZS105 billion (about US$50 million) to end at TZS 22,449.18 billion relative to market capitalization of TZS 22,554.17 billion recorded at previous trading session.
Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange index (DSEI) marginally fell by 12.07 points or 0.47 percent to end at 2,565.36 points. Tanzanian domestic Share Index sagged by 17.56 points or 0.38 percent to close at 4,614.19 points.
The Banks, Finance & Investment sector index fell by 119.51 points or 3.93 percent to close at 2,923.48 points and the Industrial & Allied sector index gained 49.70 points or 0.80 percent to end at 6,292.57 points. Commercial services sector index remained flat to close at 3,819.32 points.
Today, the Dar Es Salaam Stock Exchange recorded a total turnover of TZS 571.636 million from 52,211 shares traded in 51 deals compared to the previous session which recorded a turnover of TZS 327.41 million from 264,115 shares traded in 69 deals. CRDB had 6,558 shares traded in 12 deals and National Microfinance Bank exchanged 1,468 shares in 7 deals. Tanzania Breweries Limited traded 36,565 shares in 10 deals. Tanzania Portland Cement Company Limited recorded 480 shares traded in 6 deals. Tanzania Cigarette Company Limited traded 800 shares in 2 deals. TOL had 480 shares in 2 deals.
On the market strength/breath perspectives, the markets breathe ended negative today, with 2 gainers and 5 losers. The gainers were Tanzania Breweries Limited closed at TZS 15,190 after adding 1.28 percent and National Microfinance Bank advanced by 0.37 percent to end at TZS 2,700.
CRDB emerged as the top losers by dropping 10.00 percent with a closing price of TZS 405. Other losers were Kenya Airways declined by 6.98 percent at TZS 120, KCB Group tumbled by 1.04 percent to trade at TZS 950 and East Africa Breweries Limited closed at TZS 6,130 after losing 0.49 percent. Jubilee Holdings Limited dropped 0.18 percent to close at TZS 11,440.
