DAR ES SALAAM Tanzania, Capital Markets in Africa — On the first day of the week, the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange equity market closed in the red zone, after market capitalization and All Share index lower. The equity market capitalization lost TZS 227 billion (about US$105 million) to end at TZS 22,274 billion relative to market capitalization of TZS 22,501 billion recorded at previous trading session.
The Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange index (DSEI) plunged by 25,47 points or 0.99 percent to end at 2,543.91 points. The Tanzanian domestic Share Index sagged by 8.89 points or 0.19 percent to close at 4,599.94 points.
The Banks, Finance & Investment sector index remained constant to end at 2,980.38 points. Industrial & Allied sector index marginally gained 0.02 percent or 1.15 points to close at 6,226.29 points and Commercial services sector stayed flat to settle at 4,057.89.
Today, the Dar Es Salaam Stock Exchange recorded a total turnover of TZS 731.72 million from 153,173 shares traded in 43 deals compared to the previous session which recorded a turnover of TZS 1,634.27 million from 151,501 shares traded in 82 deals. CRDB had 100,845 shares traded in 25 deals and Mkombozi Commercial Bank exchanged 4,000 shares in 2 deals. Tanzania Breweries Limited traded 45,000 shares in 8 deals. Swala Gas & Oil Tanzania Limited traded 1,300 shares in 3 deals.
On the market strength/breath perspectives, the markets breathe ended negative today, with three gainers and six losers. Kenya Airways added 4.35 percent to settle at TZS 120, Acacia Mining Limited grew by 1.91 percent to close at TZS 8,530 and National Media Group soared by 0.32 percent to end at TZS 3,170. On the other hand, Uchumi Supermarkets Limited (-4.76 percent to settle at TZS 200.00); East Africa Breweries Limited (-3.58 percent at TZS 5,930); Kenya Commercial Bank (-3.00 percent at TZS 970.00), Jubilee Holdings Limited (-1.45 percent at TZS 10,230.00), National Microfinance Bank (-1.38 percent to close at TZS 2,860) and Tanzania Breweries Limited (-0.13 percent to settle at TZS 15,180).
