Dar es Salaam, Tanzania (Capital Markets in Africa):- Equities trading on the Dar Es Salaam Stock Exchange opened the week on a negative note, hence the equity market capitalization lower by TZS226 billion (about US$107 million) to end at TZS 22,351.46 billion relative to market capitalization of TZS 22,577.64 billion recorded at previous trading session.
Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange index (DSEI) marginally slumped by 25.58 points or 0.99 percent to end at 2,554.13 points. Tanzanian domestic Share Index fell by 1.95 points or 0.04 percent to close at 4,594.01 points.
The Banks, Finance & Investment sector index sagged by 12.86 points or 0.44 percent to close at 2,923.48 points and the Industrial & Allied sector index gained 5.23 points or 0.08 percent to end at 6,246.32 points. Commercial services sector index remained flat to close at 3,819.32 points.
Today, the Dar Es Salaam Stock Exchange recorded a total turnover of TZS 25,899.79 million from 3,753,244 shares traded in 53 deals compared to the previous session which recorded a turnover of TZS 384.96 million from 180,311 shares traded in 51 deals. CRDB had 1,863,077 shares traded in 20 deals and National Microfinance Bank exchanged 15,600 shares in 5 deals. Tanzania Breweries Limited traded 1,632,197 shares in 9 deals. Tanzania Portland Cement Company Limited recorded 22,120 shares traded in 1 deal. Tanzania Cigarette Company Limited traded 4,130 shares in 2 deals. TOL Gases Limited had 213,756 shares in 3 deals.
On the market strength/breath perspectives, the markets breathe ended negative today, with 2 gainers and 6 losers. The gainers were East Africa Breweries Limited closed at TZS 6,050 after adding 0.33 percent and Tanzania Breweries Limited advanced by 0.13 percent to end at TZS 15,020.
On the losers’ chart, Uchumi Supermarket Limited emerged as the top losers by plunging by 6.25 percent with a closing price of TZS 150.00. Other losers were Acacia Mining Limited declined by 4.30 percent at TZS 8.460, KCB Group crashed by 2.11 percent to trade at TZS 930 and National Media Group closed at TZS 3,650 after losing 1.35 percent. Jubilee Holdings Limited dropped 1.40 percent to close at TZS 11,290 and National Microfinance Bank sagged by 0.74 percent to close at TZS 2,700.
