Dar es Salaam, Tanzania (Capital Markets in Africa):- The Bear continued to torment the equity trading at the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange , hence the equity market capitalization fell by TZS 312 billion (about US$147 million) to end at TZS 21,881.99 billion relative to market capitalization of TZS 21,881.99 billion recorded at previous trading session.
Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange index (DSEI) sagged by 36.23 points or 1.45 percent to end at 2,463.94 points. Tanzanian domestic Share Index rose by 14.09 points or 0.31 percent to close at 4,603.09 points.
The Banks, Finance & Investment sector index climbed by 32.15 points or 1.11 percent to settle at 2,941.64 points. Industrial & Allied sector index surged by 5.23 points or 0.08 percent to close at 6,249.14 points and Commercial services sector index remained unchanged to end at 3,953.26.
Today, the Dar Es Salaam Stock Exchange recorded a total turnover of TZS 228.41 million from 49,377 shares traded in 46 deals compared to the previous session which recorded a turnover of TZS 946.12 million from 1,191,571 shares traded in 65 deals. CRDB had 13,990 shares traded in 20 deals and National Microfinance Bank exchanged 6,182 shares in 5 deals. Tanzania Breweries Limited traded 8,355 shares in 10 deals. Tanzania Portland Cement Company Limited recorded 210 shares traded in 2 deals. Tanzania Cigarette Company Limited traded 20,340 shares in 6 deals. Swissport Tanzania had 150 shares in 1 deal.
On the market strength/breath perspectives, the markets breathe ended negative today, with 3 gainers and 5 losers. The gainers were Uchumi Supermarket Limited closed at TZS 160 after surging by 6.67 percent; National Microfinance Bank climbed by 1.85 percent to settle at TZS 2,750 and Tanzania Breweries Limited grew by 0.13 percent to end at TZS 15,020
On the losers’ chart, Acacia Mining Limited emerged as the top losers after falling by 4.09 percent with a closing price of TZS 7,850. Other losers were East Africa Breweries Limited sagged by 3.49 percent at TZS 5,530, National Media Group plunged by 2.33 percent to trade at TZS 3,560 and KCB Group plummeted by 1.11 percent to end at TZS 800. Jubilee Holdings Limited closed at TZS 11,180 after a reduction of 0.71 percent.
