DAR ES SALAAM Tanzania, Capital Markets in Africa — Tanzania Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange equity market ended in negative at the end of today’s trading session. The equity market capitalization lost TZS 59.47 billion (about US$27.63 million) to end at TZS 22,104 billion relative to market capitalization of TZS 22,164 billion recorded at previous trading session.
The Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange index (DSEI) sagged by 6.42 points or 0.25 percent to end at 2,523.96 points. Tanzanian domestic Share Index crashed by 0.89 points or 0.02 percent to close at 4,592.26 points.
The Banks, Finance & Investment sector index surged by 5.59 points or 0.20 percent to end at 2,951.95 points. Industrial & Allied sector index fell by 0.08 percent or 5.51 points to close at 6,217.02 points and Commercial services sector index plunged by 8.37 points or 0.21 percent to close at 4,016.04.
Today, the Dar Es Salaam Stock Exchange recorded a total turnover of TZS 9,028.80 million from 6,434,761 shares traded in 72 deals compared to the previous session which recorded a turnover of TZS 140.10 million from 113,980 shares traded in 42 deals. CRDB had 4,366,073 shares traded in 39 deals and National Microfinance Bank exchanged 64,130 shares in 7 deals. Tanzania Breweries Limited traded 1,438 shares in 8 deals. Tanzania Portland Cement Company Limited traded 2,000,020 shares in 3 deals and TOL Gases Limited had 1,240 in 2 deals and Swala Tanzania Limited had 820 shares in 1 deal.
On the market strength/breath perspectives, the markets breathe ended negative today, with four gainers and seven losers. Kenya Commercial Bank rose by 3.06 percent to settle at TZS 1,010.00; Nation Media Group grew by 1.69 percent to close at TZS 3,010.00, TOL Gases Limited ended at TZS 770.00 after adding 1.32 percent and National Microfinance Bank surged by 0.35 percent to end at TZS 2,900.00.
Conversely, Uchumi Supermarket Limited fell by 4.55 percent to settle at TZS 210.00, TCCL sagged by 2.63 percent to close at TZS 3,700.00, East Africa Breweries Limited traded at TZS 5,870.00 by losing 2.00 percent, Acacia Mining Limited slipped by 1.47 percent with closing price of TZS 8.040.00 and Jubilee Holdings Limited crashed by 1.34 percent to conclude at TSZ 10,270. DCB Commercial Bank and Swissport Tanzania Limited both slumped by 0.83 percent (at TZS 595.00) and 0.27 percent (at TZS 7,500.00).
