DAR ES SALAAM Tanzania, Capital Markets in Africa — The Bear continued to rule at the Tanzania Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange equity market at the end of Tuesday’s trading session. The equity market capitalization lost TZS 88.70 billion (about US$41.28 million) to end at TZS 22,016 billion relative to market capitalization of TZS 22,104 billion recorded at previous trading session.
The Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange index (DSEI) lost 10.20 points or 0.40 percent to end at 2,513.76 points. Tanzanian domestic Share Index grew by 69.41 points or 1.15 percent to close at 4,661.42 points.
The Banks, Finance & Investment sector index surged by 189.88 points or 6.43 percent to end at 3,141.83 points. Industrial & Allied sector index fell by 1.60 percent or 0.03 points to close at 6,215.42 points and Commercial services sector index remained unchanged to close at 4,016.04.
Today, the Dar Es Salaam Stock Exchange recorded a total turnover of TZS 171.98 million from 163,666 shares traded in 93 deals compared to the previous session which recorded a turnover of TZS 9,028.80 million from 6,434,761 shares traded in 72 deals. CRDB had 121,502 shares traded in 50 deals and National Microfinance Bank exchanged 28,232 shares in 6 deals. Tanzania Breweries Limited traded 1,547 shares in 7 deals. Tanzania Portland Cement Company Limited traded 635 shares in 5 deals and DCB Commercial had 10,100 in 2 deals and Swissport Tanzania had 1,450 shares in 22 deals.
On the market strength/breath perspectives, the markets breathe ended negative today, with zero gainers and eight losers. Acacia Mining Limited fell by 3.11 percent to settle at TZS 7,790, East Africa Breweries Limited sagged by 2.73 percent to close at TZS 5.710, Kenya Commercial Bank traded at TZS 990.00 by losing 1.98 percent, CRDB Limited slipped by 1.35 percent with closing price of TZS 365.00 and DCB Commercial Bank crashed by 0.84 percent to conclude at TSZ 590.00. Jubilee Holdings Limited and Tanzania Portland Cement Company both slumped by 0.29 percent (at TZS 10,240) and 0.29 percent (at TZS 3,390).
