Tanzania Equity Watch | 05 Aug 2015: Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange index 0.61% down but local index 0.11% up
Dar es Salaam, Tanzania (Capital Markets in Africa):- The Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange index (DSEI) declined by 15.57 points or 0.61 percent to close at 2,523.02 points but the Tanzanian domestic Share Index advanced by 5.13 points or 0.11 percent to end at 4,566.05 points.
The Banks, Finance & Investment sector index gained 13.77 point or 0.46 percent to end at 3,020.30 points and Industrial & Allied sector index added 0.22 points to close at 6,126.30 points. However, commercial services sector index plunged by 4.19 points or 0.11 percent to end at 3,944.90 points.
The market capitalization fell by TZS 139.11 billion (about US$66 million) to end at TZS 22,074 billion relative to market capitalization of TZS 22,213 billion recorded at previous trading session.
Today, the Dar Es Salaam Stock Exchange recorded a total turnover of TZS 519.79 mln from 1,048,452 shares traded in 135 deals compared to the previous session which recorded a turnover of TZS 93.44 mln from 68,040 shares traded in 57 deals. CRDB had 1,026,477 shares traded in 87 deals and DCB Commercial Bank recorded 790 shares traded in 1 deal. National Microfinance Bank exchanged 13,240 shares in 20 deals and Tanzania Breweries Limited traded 3,643 shares in 8 deals. Tanzania Portland Cement Company had 3,082 shares in 10 deals.
On the market strength/breath perspectives, the markets breathe ended negative today, with 2 gainers and 8 losers. The two gainers were CRDB, which added 1.27 percent to end at TZS 400 and Tanzania Cigarette Company ended at TZS 16,400.00 after gaining 0.31 percent.
On the contrary, Uchumi Supermarket Limited lost 7.14 percent at TZS 130.00 and KCB Group declined by 4.04 percent to trade at TZS 950. National Media Group closed at TZS 3,800 after plummeting by 1.55 percent and Tanzania Portland Cement Company down by 0.29 percent to trade at TZS 3,400. Likewise, ACACIA Mining Limited and East Africa Breweries Limited plunged 0.26 percent at TZS 7,590 and 0.16 percent at TZS 6,120 respectively. Swissport Tanzania Limited tumbled by 0.14 percent to trade at TZS 7,330 and Tanzania Breweries Limited ended at TZS 14,800 after giving up 0.07 percent.
