Tanzania Equity Watch | 10 July 2015: Tanzanian stock markets return to North Pole … DSEI rises 233bps, investors gain US$253 million
Dar es Salaam, Tanzania (Capital Markets in Africa):- Tanzanian stock markets returned to North Pole. The market capitalization surged by TZS 535.55 billion (US$ 252.5 million) to end at TZS 23,579 billion relative to TZS 23,044 recorded at previous trading session.
The Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange (DSEI) rose by 61.26 points or 2.33 percent to close at 2,694.10 points and the Tanzanian domestic Share Index gained 45.95 points or 1.00 percent to close at 4,661.26 points. The Banks, Finance & Investment (BI) sector index plunged 2.06 percent or 66.74 to settle at 3,170.58 points. On the other hand, Industrial & Allied sector index surged by 2.17 percent at 6,194.81 points and the Commercial Services sector index slightly up by 0.10 percent to end at 4,016.07 points.
On the market activity, the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange recorded a total turnover of TZS 765.53 million from 221,353 shares traded in 57 deals compared to the previous session which recorded a turnover of TZS 219.98 million from 102,831 shares traded in 48 deals. CRDB had 160,535 shares; Tanzania Breweries Limited exchanged 44,606 shares and DCB Commercial Bank recorded 8,360 volumes.
The market strength ended negative, with 8 advancers and 6 decliners. Kenya Airways tops the gainers’ chart, by gaining 7.14 percent to end at TZS 150. It was followed by UCHUMI Supermarket Limited, by adding 5.88 percent to settle at TZS 180.00 and then Eastern African Breweries Limited ended at TZS 5,890 after gaining 5.56 percent. Likewise, KCB Group and Jubilee Holdings Limited advanced by 5.14 percent and 3.78 percent to trade at TZS 1,170 and TZS 11,800 respectively.
On the other hand, MKCB ended with price of TZS 1,050 by losing 4.55 percent to emerge at the top losers. National Microfinance Bank tumbled by 2.52 percent to end as second biggest loser with closing price of KES 3,100. Similarly, DCB Commercial plummeted by 2.21 percent at TSZ 665.00 and News Media Group tumbled by 1.48 percent to settle at TSZ 4,000. Other losers today were CRDB Tanzania and ACACIA Mining fell by 1.23 percent and 0.43 percent at TZS 400.00 and TZS 9,310.00 respectively.
