Tanzania Equity Watch | 11 Aug 2015: Equity market cap gains US$17 million, DSE index adds 0.15%, local index 0.49% up
Dar es Salaam, Tanzania (Capital Markets in Africa):- The bull runs sustained at the end of today’s trading session. The Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange index (DSEI) climbed by 3.96 points or 0.153 percent to close at 2,600.36 points and the Tanzanian domestic Share Index advanced by 22.52 points or 0.49 percent to close at 4,594.35 points.
Likewise, the Industrial & Allied sector index rose by 79.45 point or 1.29 percent to end at 6,256.61 points but Banks, Finance & Investment sector index plunged by 53.31 points or 1.83 percent to close at 2,909.49 points. However, commercial services sector index remained flat to close at 3,932.34 points.
The market capitalization advanced by TZS 35.28 billion (about US$17 million) to end at TZS 22,750 billion relative to market capitalization of TZS 22,715 billion recorded at previous trading session.
Today, the Dar Es Salaam Stock Exchange recorded a total turnover of TZS 13,469.48 million from 1,070,964 shares traded in 110 deals compared to the previous session which recorded a turnover of TZS 375.56 million from 80,914 shares traded in 63 deals. CRDB had 160,569 shares traded in 57 deals and National Microfinance Bank exchanged 10,630 shares in 11 deals and Tanzania Breweries Limited traded 61,493 shares in 9 deals and had 814,357 shares traded at 15,200 per share in 2 deals on Pre-Arranged board. Tanzania Cigarette Company had 32,500 shares in 8 deals. Tanzania Portland Cement Company Limited recorded 14,972 shares traded in 21 deals.
On the market strength/breath perspectives, the markets breathe ended positive today, with 7 gainers and 6 losers. Among the losers were KCB Group, which plunged by 5.50 percent to end at TZS 1,030 and Mkombozi Commercial Bank ended at TZS 1,050 after decreasing by 4.55 percent. Similarly, DCB Commercial Bank tumbled by 3.13 percent to trade at TZS 620.00, National Microfinance Bank ended with a closing price of TZS 2,700 by giving up 2.17 percent and CRDB Group fell by 1.23 percent to conclude at TZS 400. Jubilee Holdings Limited marginally ended in red by 0.09 percent at TZS 11,590.00.
Kenya Airways Limited emerged as the top gainers by adding 18.18 percent with a closing price of TZS 130.00. Other gainers were, Tanzania Cigarette Company surged by4.99 percent at TZS 3,580 and Uchumi Supermarkets Limited advanced by 3.70 percent to trade at TZS 140. Tanzania Breweries Limited closed at TZS 15,200 after advancing by 1.33 percent and ACACIA Mining Limited climbed by 3.30 percent to trade at TZS 7,830. Likewise, East Africa Breweries Limited and National Media Group gained 0.62 percent to close at TZS 6,460 and 0.27 percent to end at TZS 3,680 respectively.
