Tanzania Equity Watch | 12 Aug 2015: Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange index declines by 0.66%, equity investors lose US$71 million ..
Dar es Salaam, Tanzania (Capital Markets in Africa):- The Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange index (DSEI) declined by 17.10 points or 0.66 percent to close at 2,583.26 points and the Tanzanian domestic Share Index sagged by 41.23 points or 0.90 percent to close at 4,553.12 points.
Likewise, the Banks, Finance & Investment sector index plunged by 128.59 points or 4.42 percent to close at 2,780.90 points but the Industrial & Allied sector index surged by 11.85 point or 0.19 percent to end at 6,268.46 points. However, commercial services sector index remained flat to close at 3,932.34 points.
The market capitalization fell by TZS 148.72 billion (about US$71 million) to end at TZS 22,601 billion relative to market capitalization of TZS 22,750 billion recorded at previous trading session.
Today, the Dar Es Salaam Stock Exchange recorded a total turnover of TZS 13,898.74 million from 1,618,891 shares traded in 69 deals compared to the previous session which recorded a turnover of TZS 13,469.48 million from 1,070,964 shares traded in 110 deals. CRDB had 616,704 shares traded in 31 deals and National Microfinance Bank exchanged 99,512 shares in 17 deals. Tanzania Breweries Limited traded 1,150 shares in 1 deals and had 875,000 shares traded at TZS 15,200 per share in 1 deal on Pre-Arranged board. Tanzania Cigarette Company had 110 shares in 3 deals. Tanzania Portland Cement Company Limited recorded 21,514 shares traded in 7 deals.
On the market strength/breath perspectives, the markets breathe ended positive today, with 4 gainers and 6 losers. Among the losers were National Microfinance Bank, which plunged by 7.41 percent to end at TZS 2,500 and KCB Group ended at TZS 1,020 after decreasing by 0.97 percent. Similarly, Acacia Mining Limited tumbled by 0.89 percent to trade at TZS 7,760, Tanzania Breweries Limited ended with a closing price of TZS 15,100 by losing 0.66 percent and East Africa Breweries Limited fell by 0.46 percent to conclude at TZS 6,420. Tanzania Cigarette Company also plummeted by 0.26 percent at TZS 3,790.
TOL Gases Limited emerged as the top gainers by adding 10.29 percent with a closing price of TZS 750. Other gainers were, Tanzania Portland Cement Company Limited surged by 6.15 percent at TZS 3,800, National Media Group advanced by 2.72 percent to trade at TZS 3,780 and Jubilee Holdings Limited closed at TZS 11,610 after advancing by 0.17 percent.
