Tanzania Equity Watch | 13 Aug 2015: Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange index surges by 0.36%, investors add US$40 million
Dar es Salaam, Tanzania (Capital Markets in Africa):- The Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange index (DSEI) surged by 9.19 points or 0.36 percent to close at 2,592.45 points and the Tanzanian domestic Share Index rose by 49.84 points or 1.09 percent to close at 4,602.96 points.
Likewise, the Banks, Finance & Investment sector index advanced by 142.58 points or 5.13 percent to close at 2,923.48 points but the Industrial & Allied sector index sagged by 5.45 points or 0.09 percent to end at 6,263.01 points. However, commercial services sector index remained flat to close at 3,932.34 points.
The market capitalization gained TZS 84 billion (about US$40 million) to end at TZS 22,685 billion relative to market capitalization of TZS 22,601 billion recorded at previous trading session.
Today, the Dar Es Salaam Stock Exchange recorded a total turnover of TZS 708.89 million from 59,461 shares traded in 53 deals compared to the previous session which recorded a turnover of TZS 13,898.74 million from 1,618,891 shares traded in 69 deals. CRDB had 3,105 shares traded in 6 deals and National Microfinance Bank exchanged 1,900 shares in 4 deals. Tanzania Breweries Limited traded 43,736 shares in 13 deals. Tanzania Cigarette Company had 1,050 shares in 1 deal. Tanzania Portland Cement Company Limited recorded 7,340 shares traded in 23 deals.
On the market strength/breath perspectives, the markets breathe ended negative today, with 5 gainers and 6 losers. Among the losers were Kenya Airways, which plunged by 7.69 percent to end at TZS 120 and KCB Group ended at TZS 1,000 after decreasing by 1.96 percent. Similarly, East Africa Breweries Limited tumbled by 1.56 percent to trade at TZS 6,330, National Media Group ended with a closing price of TZS 3,740 by losing 1.06 percent and Tanzania Cigarette Company fell by 1.06 percent to conclude at TZS 3,750. Tanzania Portland Cement Company Limited also plummeted by 1.89 percent at TZS 11,830 and CRDB ended at TZS 405 by adding 1.25 percent.
National Microfinance Bank emerged as the top gainers by adding 8.00 percent with a closing price of TZS 2,700. Other gainers were, Uchumi Supermarket Limited surged by 7.14 percent at TZS 150, Acacia Mining Limited advanced by 3.87 percent to trade at TZS 8,080 and Jubilee Holdings Limited closed at TZS 11,610 after advancing by 0.17 percent.
