Tanzania Equity Watch | 14 July 2015: Tanzania equity markets lost US$144 million … DSEI declined by 129 bps
Dar es Salaam, Tanzania (Capital Markets in Africa):- Investors lost about TSZ 300 billion (US$144 million) with market capitalization of TZS 23,579 billion against TZS 23,494 recorded at previous trading session.
The Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange (DSEI) declined by 34.50 points or 1.29 percent to close at 2,694.79 points and the Tanzanian domestic Share Index down by 5.14 points or 1.29 percent to close at 4,561.99 points. Likewise, Commercial Services sector index plunged by 3.13 percent or 125.27 to settle at 3890.50 points. On the other hand, The Banks, Finance & Investment (BI) sector index and Industrial & Allied sector index remained unchanged to end at 3105.85 points and 6064.02 levels respectively.
On the market activity, the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange recorded a total turnover of TZS 345.57 million from 775,056 shares traded in 70 deals compared to the previous session which recorded a turnover of TZS 4,136.15 million from 7,012,926 shares traded in 108 deals. CRDB had 768,000 shares; Tanzania Portland Cement Company traded 2,575 shares and Swissport Tanzania Limited recorded 1,920 traded stocks.
The market strength ended negative, with 1 advancer and 7 decliners. Swala Gas & Oil was the only gainer, by adding 0.91 percent to end at TZS 555. On the other hand, News Media Group Kenya ended with price of TZS 3,790 by losing 7.56 percent to emerge at the top losers. News Media Group Kenya tumbled by 6.67 percent to end as second biggest loser with closing price of KES 140. Likewise, Swissport Tanzania Limited plummeted by 4.00 percent at TSZ 7,200 and KCB Group tumbled by 3.45 percent to settle at TSZ 1,120.00. Other losers today were Jubilee Holdings Limited and East African Breweries Limited fell by 3.05 percent and 1.32 percent at TZS 11,460 and TZS 5,980.00 respectively.
