Tanzania Equity Watch | 15 July 2015: Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange index (DSEI) down by 138 basis points and market cap sheds US$156 million
Dar es Salaam, Tanzania (Capital Markets in Africa):- The Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange (DSEI) declined by 36.45 points or 1.38 percent to close at 2,613.34 points and the Tanzanian domestic Share Index down by 1.37 points or 0.03 percent to close at 4,560.62 points. Likewise, the Banks, Finance & Investment (BI) sector index and Industrial & Allied sector index dropped by 0.06 percent and 0.02 percent and Commercial Services sector index remained unchanged to end at 3890.50 points.
The market capitalization was recorded at TZS 22,870 billion, by losing TZS 324 billion (US$156 million) against TZS 23,195 billion recorded yesterday.
On the market activity, the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange recorded a total turnover of TZS 172.57 million from 413,024 shares traded in 47 deals compared to the previous session which recorded a turnover of TZS 345.57 million from 775,056 shares traded in 70 deals. CRDB had 411,379 shares; TOL Gases Limited traded 1,000 shares and Tanzania Breweries Limited recorded 473 traded stocks.
The market strength ended negative, with 2 advancers and 7 decliners. TOL Gases added 0.76 percent to end at TZS 665 and News Media Group Kenya ended with price of TZS 3,820 by rising by 0.79 percent.
Uchumi Supermarkets Limited Kenya tumbled by 11.11 percent to emerge as biggest loser with closing price of KES 160. Likewise, East African Breweries Limited plummeted by 4.18 percent at TSZ 5,730 and DCB Group tumbled by 3.03 percent to settle at TSZ 640.00. Other losers today were KCB Group and Jubilee Holdings Limited fell by 2.68 percent and 1.83 percent at TZS 1,090 and TZS 11,250 respectively.
