Tanzania Equity Watch | 17 Aug 2015: Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange back in red … equity market cap lose US$104 million
Dar es Salaam, Tanzania (Capital Markets in Africa):- The Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange index (DSEI) backed to end negative at end of today’s trading session after losing 25.20 points or 0.97 percent to close at 2,576.77 points. The Tanzanian domestic Share Index plunged by 29.67 points or 0.64 percent to close at 4,581.89 points.
The Banks, Finance & Investment sector index declined by 32.41 points or 1.10 percent to close at 2,910.36 points and the Industrial & Allied sector index tumbled by 24.00 points or 0.38 percent to end at 6,241.74 points. Commercial services sector index also dropped 2.98 percent or 117.20 points to close at 3,815.14 points.
The market capitalization dropped TZS 219 billion (about US$104 million) to end at TZS 22,548 billion relative to market capitalization of TZS 22,767 billion recorded at previous trading session.
Today, the Dar Es Salaam Stock Exchange recorded a total turnover of TZS 306.72 million from 149,211 shares traded in 72 deals compared to the previous session which recorded a turnover of TZS 230.43 million from 342,117 shares traded in 140 deals. CRDB had 123,893 shares traded in 27 deals and National Microfinance Bank exchanged 3,918 shares in 10 deals. Tanzania Breweries Limited traded 14,692 shares in 15 deals. Tanzania Cigarette Company had 90 shares in 2 deals. Tanzania Portland Cement Company Limited recorded 5,157 shares traded in 7 deals.
On the market strength/breath perspectives, the markets breathe ended negative today, with 4 gainers and 9 losers. The gainers were Kenya Airways which closed at TZS 130 after adding 8.33 percent and DCB Commercial Bank tumbled by 1.16 percent to end at TZS 630.00. Tanzania Cigarette Company and Tanzania Portland Cement Company Limited surged by 0.27 percent to end at TZS 3,780 and 0.26 percent to conclude at TZS 3,800 respectively.
Swissport Tanzania Limited emerged as the top losers by dropping 3.84 percent with a closing price of TZS 7,020. Other losers were KCB Group declined by 2.97 percent at TZS 980, Jubilee Holdings Limited tumbled by 1.53 percent to trade at TZS 11,550 and CRDB closed at TZS 400 after gaining by 1.23 percent. National Microfinance Bank dropped 1.10 percent to close at TZS 2,700 and National Media Group closed at TZS 3,700 after losing by 1.07 percent. Acacia Mining Limited and Tanzania Breweries Limited fell by 0.98 percent to conclude at TZS 8,080 and 0.66 percent to settle at TZS 15,000 respectively.
