Tanzania Equity Watch | 19 Aug 2015: Tanzania equity markets sustained the positive momentum … domestic index 0.80% up

Dar es Salaam, Tanzania (Capital Markets in Africa):- Tanzania equity markets sustained the positive momentum, as a result the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange index (DSEI) marginally rose by 0.01 points to end at 2,577.43 points. Tanzanian domestic Share Index advanced by 36.93 points or 0.80 percent to close at 4,631.75 points.

The Banks, Finance & Investment sector index added 94.93 points or 3.22 percent to close at 3,042.99 points and the Industrial & Allied sector index gained 10.70 points or 0.17 percent to end at 6,242.87 points. Commercial services sector index sagged 96.27 percent or 2.46 points to close at 3,915.59 points.

The market capitalization slightly added by TZS 60 million (about US$0.3 million) to end at TZS 22,554.17 billion relative to market capitalization of TZS 22,554.11 billion recorded at previous trading session.

Today, the Dar Es Salaam Stock Exchange recorded a total turnover of TZS 327.41 million from 264,115 shares traded in 69 deals compared to the previous session which recorded a turnover of TZS 152.69 million from 253,457 shares traded in 85 deals.  CRDB had 151,826 shares traded in 12 deals and National Microfinance Bank exchanged 21,130 shares in 6 deals. Tanzania Breweries Limited traded 5,367 shares in 4 deals. Swissport Tanzania Limited had 2,357 shares in 13 deals. Tanzania Portland Cement Company Limited recorded 4,295 shares traded in 12 deals.  Tanzania Cigarette Company Limited traded 12,210 shares in 8 deals.

On the market strength/breath perspectives, the markets breathe ended negative today, with 4 gainers and 6 losers. The gainers were CRDB closed at TZS 450 after adding 12.50 percent and Tanzania Portland Cement Company Limited advanced by 1.60 percent to end at TZS 3,800 and Tanzania Cigarette Company Limited grew by 0.53 percent to end at TZS 3,800. Acacia Mining Limited ended at TZS 8,260 by gaining 0.49 percent.

Swissport Tanzania Limited emerged as the top losers by dropping 3.17 percent with a closing price of TZS 7,030. Other losers were National Microfinance Bank declined by 2.54 percent at TZS 2,690, East Africa Breweries Limited tumbled by 1.75 percent to trade at TZS 6,160 and Kenya Airways closed at TZS 129 after gaining by 0.77 percent. Jubilee Holdings Limited dropped 0.52 percent to close at TZS 11,460 and National Media Group closed at TZS 3,680 after losing by 0.27 percent.
