Tanzania Equity Watch | 22 July 2015: The bearish mood continued on the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange … market cap US$180 down
Dar es Salaam, Tanzania (Capital Markets in Africa):- The bearish mood continued on the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange, Tanzania. The Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange (DSEI) further plunged by 42.58 points or 1.63 percent to close at 2,565.11 points and the Tanzanian domestic Share Index plummeted by 67.83 points or 1.47 percent to close at 4,552.50 points. The industrial & Allied sector index tumbled by 125.56 points or 2.03 percent to settle at 6,065.80 and the Banks, Finance & Investment (BI) sector index sector index lost 2.18 points or 0.032 percent at 3,069.78 points. However, Commercial Services sector index added 0.21 percent at 3,961.65 points.
The market capitalization was recorded at TZS 22,444 billion after falling by TZS 374 billion (about US$179 million) against TZS 22,881 billion recorded yesterday.
On the market activity, the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange recorded a total turnover of TZS 935.23 million from 2,287,100 shares traded in 68 deals compared to the previous session which recorded a turnover of TZS 1,610.30 million from 256,544 shares traded in 65 deals. CRDB traded 2,278,385 shares; National Microfinance Bank traded 2,515 shares and DCB Commercial Bank recorded 3,980 traded stocks.
The market strength/breathe was negative today, with 4 gainers and 5 losers. East African Breweries Limited surged by 1.20 percent to close at TZS 5,920.00 and News Media Group added 1.06 percent to trade at TZS 3,820. Likewise, Jubilee Holdings Limited advanced by 1.05 percent to settle at TZS 11,500 and Swissport Tanzania Limited rose by 0.27 percent to conclude at TZS 7,370.
On the decliners table, ACACIA Mining Limited emerged as the biggest losers after losing 8.44 percent to end at TZS 7,490. Other losers’ were Kenya Airways somersaulted by 7,14 percent to end at TZS 130, Uchumi Supermarket Limited ended at TZS 140 after decreasing by 6.67 percent and DCB Commercial Bank plunged by 3.91 percent to end at TZS 651. Tanzania Breweries Limited ended at TZS 14,510 by losing 3.20 percent.
