Tanzania Equity Watch | 23 July 2015: The Bear threats the confidence on the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange, Tanzania
Dar es Salaam, Tanzania (Capital Markets in Africa):- On Thursday the bear remained confidence on the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange Road. The Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange index (DSEI) tumbled by 7.24 points or 0.28 percent to close at 2,557.87 points and the Tanzanian domestic Share Index fell by 33.46 points or 0.73 percent to close at 4,519.04 points. The industrial & Allied sector index tumbled by 37.27 points or 0.61 percent to settle at 6,065.80 and the Banks, Finance & Investment (BI) sector index sector index tumbled by 36.40 points or 1.19 percent at 3,069.78 points. However, Commercial Services sector index remained the same to end at 3,961.65 points.
The market capitalization went down almost TZS 63 billion (about US$30.2 million) to end at TZS 22,382 billion relative to market capitalization of TZS 22,444 billion recorded at previous trading session.
Today, the Dar es Salaam Stock recorded a total turnover of TZS 1,163.03 million from 120,385 shares traded in 65 deals compared to the previous session which recorded a turnover of TZS 935.23 million from 2,287,100 shares traded in 68 deals. Tanzania Breweries Limited had 72,124 shares, out of which 70,000 shares traded at 15,000 per share in 1 deal on Pre-Arranged board. CRDB traded 23,775 shares and National Microfinance Bank traded 16,714 shares.
The market strength/breathe was negative today, with 5 gainers and 4 losers. Kenya Airways surged by 7.69 percent to close at TZS 140 and DCB Commercial Bank gained 4.07 percent to trade at TZS 640. Likewise, Jubilee Holdings Limited advanced by 1.83 percent to settle at TZS 11,710 and News Media Group rose by 1.05 percent to conclude at TZS 3,860. East African Breweries Limited price closed at TZS 5,960 by adding 0.68 percent.
Tanzania Portland Cement Company was the biggest losers by losing 6.71 percent to end at TZS 3,200. National Microfinance Bank retracted to TZS 2,890 after giving away 2.03 percent and KCB Group ended at TZS 1,120 by losing 1.75 percent and Tanzania Cigarette Company Limited plunged by 0.26 percent to end at TZS 3,800.
