What Happens when a Slot Game is Discontinued?
All good things must come to an end, so they say – and sadly that is just as true of slot games as anything else. TV shows can be axed, books can be removed from publishers’ lists, and slot games can be discontinued, just like unwanted dishes on a restaurant menu – discover here.
But what does this mean, and is there anything you can do if your much-loved slot game has been brought to an end?
Why do slots get discontinued?
There can be various reasons behind the discontinuation of an online slot game.
One common cause is that online casinos can become crowded with so many slots that they need to jettison some in order to make space for new creations, which are appearing all the time.
Additionally, so much competition means that, now and then, slots which attract fewer players are more likely to be got rid of, in order to pave the way for games which will be more liable to attract a following.
Other times, the case is more complex, as with the Marvel slots which were discontinued a few years ago, despite being immensely popular with many players. This happened because Marvel Entertainment was purchased by Disney, which needed to maintain its family-friendly reputation and therefore get rid of any connections to gambling. As a result, the Marvel slots were removed once their licensing agreements expired – leaving many players bereft at losing their favourite games. Some of the slots which were discontinued included Iron Man, Avengers, Captain America and Ghost Rider.
Players who are still feeling the sting of losing their favourite Marvel heroes and are looking for alternative slots that will bring similar thrills and enjoyment might wish to check out other options. For example, the likes of DC-themed slots, such as the Batman and Superman games – of which there are several – offer similar themes and adventures.
For the exact same reason as the loss of the Marvel games, various Star Wars slots were also axed a few years back, much to the disappointment of fans. This occurred following the purchase of Lucasfilm by Disney back in 2012.
If you loved those out-of-this-world slots and are looking to replicate some of their excitement and atmosphere, you could always look out for quirky alternatives such as Microgaming’s Steampunk Heroes games, or something suitably epic like Game of Thrones.
Conclusion
Sadly, once a slot has been discontinued, it is lost forever – but if you really liked a particular game that is no longer available, it’s still possible to find plenty of other online slot games with a similar theme or gameplay that may appeal to you almost, or just, as much. Looking on the bright side, the discontinuation of some slots means that there is more room for a raft of new and innovative games to burst onto the scene – giving you a plethora of other choices to pick from.
